FEMA for Democrats

080326_bredesen_martin Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen is asking the Party to be mindful of disaster preparedness, and that if this nomination carries into summer - that we better stock-up on duct tape and plastic.  In other words, we need to get this thing resolved and fast.

He makes a good point.  A summer-long nomination battle is nothing but hurtful to the Democratic Party.

However, he's still on this silly rant that Super Delegates need to meet and have their own primary.  I've said it before - getting together at a meeting to say who we are voting for isn't entirely necessary.  The meeting isn't going to create binding votes anyway.

He would be doing a better service to advocate for a date for all Supers to make a decision by - I've stated before that the best date is Memorial Day.

Some could say wait until all the nominating contests are over in early June.  I suppose that's fine, too - though the last primaries on the calendar do not offer enough delegates to tip the balance in one direction or another.  So really, what's the point of waiting until June?

I'm of the opinion that easy solutions are sometimes the best ones.  Setting a date requires no logistics, it sets a tone that is easy to understand, and for the Supers who don't declare by then - well, we can assume that may never declare.  In which case, we carry on with what we've got at that point.
